Falling off the Wagon


Changing habits when it comes to health and fitness can be tough! And generally a long, windy road. You’re bound to fall off the wagon, more than once!

Falling off the wagon isn’t the end of the world. It’s actually an opportunity to learn. It can feel like you’ve undone all your hard work but thinking like this will only cause you to spiral head first down a barrel of negativity and more undoing.

Instead of feeling shame and guilt, think hard about how it happened. What happened that day? What were you feeling? Where were you? This can help you develop better techniques for anticipating and avoiding it happening again. It’s like using a muscle. The more you use it, the stronger it gets.

Life happens, so it's totally natural to stray from our healthy habits. The important thing is to stay motivated and have the tools to get yourself back on track, because you have the ability to reach your goals even with a little detour.

 Here are some tips to help you get back on the wagon;

  1. Focus on one meal at a time!

  2. Celebrate along the way. It’s all the small steps that matter most! Don’t focus on an end result. Focus on one foot in front of the other and celebrate as you start to run!

  3. Be prepared! Always be prepared with plenty of healthy food options to choose from. Preparing bulk meals etc will also mean that when you drag yourself home from work and ‘can’t be bothered’ to cook, you won’t opp for takeaway but have something ready to heat up or reserve!

  4. It’s OKAY to treat yourself! Treating yourself occasionally means you won’t feel restricted and are less likely to binge as a result.
